New Chairman of the EABH Board of Patrons elected



On 29 May 2008 Dr. Rolf-E. Breuer, former Spokesman of the Board of Managing Directors and former Chairman of the Supervisory Baord of Deutsche Bank AG, stepped down as Chairman of the EABH Board of Patrons and welcomed Mr. Malcolm Knight from the Bank for International Settlements (as of October 2008 non-executive Vice Chairman, Deutsche Bank Group) as successor. The EABH would like to thank Dr. Breuer for his continuing support and welcomes Mr. Knight as new Chairman.


Cultural Heritage Prize awarded to Banca d'Italia

On 29 May 2008 the EABH and Dr. Rolf-E. Breuer, former Spokesman of the Board of Managing Directors and former Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG, awarded the first Cultural Heritage Prize. The Prize was awarded to Banca d'Italia to acknowledge the Bank's efforts to offer free access to their archive since 1969 as well as the extensive collection of material especially of oral documents such as speeches and interviews.

Continental and Global Networks of Credit and Capital in Historical Perspective

The EABH annual conference in Frankfurt was a great success. The papers presented at the Conference will be available soon to EABH members in the Members section. The publication of the proceedings is expected in 2009.

The History and Future of Corporate Social Responsibility
26 October 2008, Banque de France, Paris

The EABH e.V., in cooperation with the Institute for Corporate Culture Affairs e.V., will be holding an international symposium entitled: The History and Future of Corporate Social Responsibility with the kind support of Banque de France, Paris. The aim of this event is to bring together experts, historians, researchers and academics from around the world working in the field of business history, Corporate Social Responsibility and corporate history to exchange experiences and positions from different perspectives and results of research.


2008 International Summer School for Archivists - Athens, Greece

The EABH e.V. is proud to announce the second International Summer School for Archivists entitled: Electronic Records Management. The summer school will be taking place between 7-12 September 2008 in cooperation with the Helenic Open University and the National Bank of Greece in Athens.

Fees for members amount to 500,00 EUR and for non-members 800,00 EUR.


Call for Papers - The Critical Function of History in Banking - Cyprus 2009

The European Association for Banking and Financial History e.V. (EABH) is calling for papers to be presented at its annual colloquium in 2009. The EABH 2009 Main Conference will be kindly hosted by the Bank of Cyprus. It will be held on 15-16 May 2009, in Nicosia, Cyprus. The subject of the conference is The Critical Function of History in Banking. Deadline for abstracts: 18 April 2008. More information (pdf ca. 20kb).


EABH Annual Conference & Workshop May 2008

This year's conference Continental and Global Networks of Credit and Capital in Historical Perspective will be taking place on 30 & 31 May in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The conference will be opened with a key note speech by Prof. Axel Weber, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, and a Panel Discussion: 10 Years of the Euro. The Eurosystem and its Prospects.

This year's conference will be accompanied by a workshop on 29 May: Access to Archives: An Open and Shut Case
Participation at the conference is free of charge. The workshop fee for non-members amounts to 300€.
